The following rules and procedures for Education Council elections are in accordance with the College and Institute Act. In the event of any conflict between the rules and procedures and the Act, the College and Institute Act shall prevail.
Elections Rules and Procedures
A By-Election Will Be Conducted to Fill the Following Seat on Education Council:
Support Staff Representative
- One (1) Support Staff representative will be elected from the support staff at large
- Term of office commences September 1, 2023 and ends August 31, 2025
An Election Will Be Conducted to Fill the Following Seats on Education Council:
- One (1) faculty representative will be elected from the following areas:
- Learning Resources
- Term of office commences September 1, 2024 and ends August 31, 2026
Student Representative:
- One (1) student representative will be elected from the students at large
- Term of office commences September 1, 2024 and ends August 31, 2025

Election Information
Faculty, students, and support staff may not hold an elected position on both the College Board and Education Council concurrently.
Each candidate is required to act reasonably, responsibly and in good faith; and shall be required to ensure they are aware of and comply with, all rules, policies and procedures of the College. To ensure fairness, integrity, and professionalism, candidates will conduct themselves in accordance with all relevant College and representative group policies, and shall abide by all election and campaign regulations, rules and/or guidelines established by the Registrar. Once elected to the Education Council, representatives are expected to act in the best interests of the College.
Definitions
FACULTY
According to the College and Institute Act, a faculty member is defined as "an instructor, librarian, tutor, counselor, research associate, program coordinator or other employee of the institution that a collective agreement between the bargaining agents as defined in section 1 of the Labour Relations Code, for the institution and faculty members specifies to be a faculty member".
All regular and contract faculty are eligible for nomination or nominate a candidate, with the exception of faculty who are on an approved leave from the College (other than an Education leave) at the time of the election or during the term of office.
STUDENT
According to the College and Institute Act, a student is defined as "a person the Registrar recognizes to be enrolled and in good standing in a course or program of studies at the institution". For the purposes of elections, a student is an individual who is enrolled in at least one credit course and in good standing at the institution.
SUPPORT STAFF
According to the College and Institute Act, a support staff is defined as "employees of the institution who are not the president, educational administrators or faculty members".
All regular support staff are eligible for nomination or nominate a candidate, with the exception of staff who are on an approved leave from the College (other than Education Leave) at the time of the election or during the term of office.
Meetings and Commitment
There is a total of 10 Education Council meetings throughout the year. In addition to preparing for and attending the Education Council meetings, Council members are also assigned to participate on a Committee. Committee meetings take place the same months as Education Council meetings. There is a time commitment requirement to attend these meetings.
