  • PhD in Anthropology and Communication, Laval U.
  • MA in Public Communication, Laval U.

ABOUT

I was born in Francophone Cameroon and migrated to Canada in 2000. I have a double training in Anthropology (Ph.D. in Anthropology at Laval University in 2016) and Communications Studies (Bachelor's degree in Organizational Communication from the University of Ottawa in 2004 and Masters degree in Public Communication in Laval University, Quebec City in 2006).

After my fieldwork in Cameroon (as a Masters candidate) and couple of years in corporate institutions in homeland country Cameroon, I decided to take a shift in Anthropology to understand more about the African youth culture and the dynamics around media and cultural industries in Quebec City (doctoral fieldwork between 2010 and 2012).

I also explored many other African sites while working in UN Missions and Canadian International cooperation. I have presented my research findings at several conferences and seminars in Canada, the United States, France and Africa, as well as published some academic papers as well as articles (annual reviews) on socioeconomic and political issues in Laos. I am happy to continue to share and apply my practical years of experience in academia and international organizations with students at Douglas College.

RESEARCH AREAS

I like to define myself as culturalist and communication specialist. My main interests are the influence of globalization and cultural dynamics on youth and women, especially from African descent. My research in hip-hop culture and rap music in Cameroon and Quebec City is interdisciplinary and connects anthropology and communication. I focus on issues of youth subculture, globalization, black identity, social and economic inequalities, immigration and integration.

I also am interested in the empowerment of African women in conflicts and post-conflicts areas, and peacebuilding dynamics. My principal fieldwork is Sub-Saharan Africa (Cameroon, Mali, Senegal), but I also explored many other African sites while working in UN missions, humanitarian and Canadian non-profit organizations and international cooperations (in Quebec and Vancouver).
