Music Technology

Program overview

Gain the skills to be a driving force in the studio with the two-year Diploma in Music Technology. The program provides hands-on training across digital music production, audio recording, music for film, studio setup and maintenance, career development, live performance, and more.

What to expect

Students in the Music Technology Diploma (MTD) program are immersed in a fast-paced, hands-on learning environment focused on audio recording and mixing, music production, and live sound.

Classes are led by instructors with years of industry experience in Douglas College’s exceptional facilities including two industry-standard recording studios, a Mac Lab, a brand-new Atmos mastering suite, and a 350-seat theatre. Through unique opportunities to both perform and produce live events like the high-energy Beat Battle, Fusion Fest, weekly open mics, and the annual Performance Lab, students grow as musicians and creative artists while developing strong technical skills.

MTD graduates may also choose to continue their studies in our new one-year Advanced Certificate in Applied Audio offering further training in game audio, post-production, and advanced mastering.

Career Opportunities

WorkBC has reported there will be over 1000 audio and video recording job openings expected in B.C. over the next nine years.

Recent graduates are working in fields across the sector including live sound, production, recording, and mixing. Some have started their own recording studios; others have moved into film score composition or artist management.
