Student Representative
Candidate: HASHEMI, Tina
My name is Tina Hashemi, and I am studying sciences at Douglas College. I am writing to express my interest in running for Douglas College Board By-Election as a representative of all students, and be the voice of students in the board. I have developed my leadership, teamwork and public speaking during my extra circular activities at Coquitlam/Port Coquitlam Youth Council as a Co-Chair and Tri-city Footsal. I am excited to join Douglas College Board and bring new perspectives. Douglas Board of election has done amazing for the past few years and I am passionate to join their team and become a positive member for my community.
Candidate: HERRERA LIRA, Debanhi
My name is Debanhi. I am a third-year associate of arts student specializing in sociology. I am running for the College Board student representative position.
These past few years I have had the pleasure of meeting many of you and have heard about your experiences in your classes, your passion for your education, and your pride in being Douglas students.
I will continue to encourage and motivate you by uplifting your voices as a college board member. As the current Director of External Relations for the Douglas Students’ Union (DSU), I learned to be a leader, and I facilitate needed conversations in order to enact change for the better. You deserve to be heard. This is your college, your union, and your experience.
The goal of a student representative is to accurately represent each and every student, whether they are a domestic or international student. If elected, I will listen to your needs and help enrich your education.

Candidate: KAUR, Chetan
My name is Chetan Kaur, and I am pursuing a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Cyber Security at Douglas College. I am passionate about making a meaningful impact on our campus and have proudly represented my college.
In our diverse community, students come from all walks of life, striving to achieve their dreams. I aim to be a transparent and approachable representative, fostering an inclusive space where every student feels empowered to share their ideas, concerns, and aspirations. I believe in the power of collective voices and that together, we can shape a more supportive and dynamic learning environment.
As your student representative, I will actively advocate for better access to resources, including enhanced mental health support, academic advising, and career development services. I understand the importance of balancing studies, work, and personal life, and I am committed to creating opportunities that will help students navigate these challenges more effectively. I also plan to organize more events related to technical and cultural fields to encourage professional growth and foster a sense of belonging for everyone on campus.
I will work to strengthen communication between the student body and college administration, ensuring that your concerns are brought forward and addressed in a timely manner. By promoting transparency and open dialogue, I want to create a campus environment where students feel confident that their voices matter.
Candidate: LE, Thi Hoai Thuong (Kaylin)
My name is Kaylin Le, and I am an international student in my second year of the PBD Advanced Supply Chain Management program. I am running to be your College Board Student Representative at the New Westminster campus because I am committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where every student feels a sense of belonging and can grow together.
During my time at Douglas College, I have actively contributed to campus life through various volunteer roles, including as a Vice-president of the DSU Vietnamese Student Association, Future Students' Office Student Ambassador, DCI Ambassador, DCI Mentor, DCI Global Engagement Buddy, and Student Life volunteer. I have also worked as a Student Assistant for the DCI Ambassador Program, the DCI Mentorship Program, and Student Life (EDGE Planner). These experiences have allowed me to support prospective and current students, guiding them through their journey at Douglas while helping them feel connected. Through these roles, I have developed strong leadership skills and gained a deep understanding of the challenges students face, equipping me to offer meaningful support and advice.
As your Student Representative, I will strive to foster a positive and inclusive campus environment where every student’s voice is heard and their concerns are addressed. Together, we can build a vibrant community where everyone feels valued and empowered.
