Emergency funding
Sometimes, even with the best planning, you may run into a situation that is out of your control and may need short-term financial help. Emergency Funding may be an option that is short-term, and generally a one-time, emergency fund that can help cover a temporary shortfall due to an unexpected emergency situation when no other financial options are available. All requests for financial support are confidential and separate from your academic record.
Eligibility Requirements
Emergency Funding is available to domestic and international students who are current registered students at Douglas College, and who can demonstrate an unexpected and unforeseen temporary financial need due to extenuating circumstances.
Examples of situations where we may be able to help:
Food and essential items
Rent or temporary emergency housing
Unexpected childcare costs
Medical emergencies and medical costs not covered through DSU Health and Dental
Unexpected travel expenses
Theft or accidents
Unexpected loss of employment
Items that Douglas does not provide funding for include (but not limited to) costs tied to tuition and student fees, car payments, loan payments, personal debt and pet care. Emergency funding is not intended to support family or friends.
Please note documentation supporting your claims may be required for assessment. For example, a student facing housing issues may be required to submit a rental agreement .
