Transfer your Сredits
If you have completed courses at other post-secondary institutions within the past seven years, you may be eligible to receive transfer credit for your courses at Douglas College. To have your previous courses evaluated for transfer credit, submit a completed Transfer Credit Request Form by email to transfercredit@douglascollege.ca or drop off in person or by mail to Enrolment Services.
Transfer Credit Notes
- We require Official transcripts to complete your request, and they must be received from your sending institution by Douglas College within 2 weeks of your Request (hand-delivered, photocopies, faxes and emails of transcripts are deemed unofficial and will not be processed).
- For students who completed courses outside of BC or if your course has not been reviewed previously, we may require you to submit Detailed Course Outlines for each course you completed.
- Please review the Credentials Awarded policy time limits prior to submitting a Transfer Credit Request to ensure your courses are within the time limits to qualify for graduation within your program.
- Current applicants and students with prior post-secondary education completed within the past 7 years are eligible to submit a Transfer Credit Request to have their courses evaluated for transfer credit to Douglas College. In progress courses will not be evaluated.
- Official translations are required for all official transcripts and Detailed course outlines that are not in English.
- All transcripts and other documents filed in support of your transfer credit request become the property of Douglas College and will not be returned unless they are deemed irreplaceable.
- Douglas College awards credits according to the credits established for the equivalent course at Douglas College
- Failing grades will not receive transfer credit - minimum grade is "D" or "P" for transfer credit purposes
- Transfer credit becomes part of your Douglas College official student record but is not included in your Douglas College Cumulative GPA.
Recommended Deadlines
To ensure your transfer credit request is processed in time for your registration, your request must be received by the following deadlines:
- April 15th for Fall Semester
- September 15th for Winter Semester
- January 16thfor Summer Semester
**Note: Requests that require detailed course outlines should be submitted well in advance of the above deadlines as they can take 1-3 months to be evaluated.
If you have been admitted to the College after the above deadlines, please submit your request for transfer credit as soon as possible as requests will continue to be processed in the order received. If you require courses to be transferred to meet pre-requisites for registration and they will not be processed in time, please contact the appropriate department / faculty member of your course to see if they may be able to consider granting you a pre-requisite override. Overrides are granted at the discretion of the department and may not be approved.
How to submit your request for Transfer Credit
Courses taken within BC
- Complete a Transfer Credit Request Form
- Ensure official transcripts are sent to Douglas College immediately if not already on file.
- Include detailed course outlines from the time period attended - these are required for all courses NOT appearing in the BC Transfer Guide. Please refer to the Detailed course outlines information. Note: Calendar descriptions are not sufficient for evaluation purposes and outlines must have been supplied to you by the institution.
Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB)
- Complete a Transfer Credit Request Form
- Ensure official AP or official IB scores are sent to Douglas College immediately if not already on file.
- Students can confirm which AP and IB courses receive transfer credit at Douglas College on the BC Transfer Guide website.
Courses taken outside BC
- Complete a Transfer Credit Request Form
- Ensure official transcripts are sent to Douglas College immediately if not already on file.
- Include detailed course outlines from the time period attended. Please refer to the Detailed course outlines information. Note: Calendar descriptions are not sufficient for evaluation purposes and outlines must have been supplied to you by the institution. Official Transcripts and Detailed Course Outlines must include Official translations in English. Failure to provide detailed course outlines for all foreign transcripts submitted will result in your transfer credit not being reviewed.
Detailed Course Outlines
In addition to submitting a Transfer Credit Request form, we may require a a Detailed Courses Outline for the course(s) you are trying to transfer to Douglas College. Detail Course Outlines allow our faculty to review all of the details of your prior courses to determine if they are equivalent to a Douglas College course.
Detailed course outlines must originate from your sending institution and be from the semester/term you attended the course. We do not accept outlines with incomplete information and/or calendar/course descriptions. If your outline is missing components we require, it will not be evaluated.
How to Submit Detailed Course Outlines:
- Review your Douglas College program and course requirements to determine if any of your prior courses may be equivalent.
- Check the BC Transfer Guide to determine if your prior courses have already been evaluated (Douglas College as Receiving Institution).
- Review the information and instructions on the Detailed Course Outline form.
- Contact your prior post-secondary institution, requesting them to provide you with the detailed course outlines, ensure to ask them to provide the version that was efffective when you completed your course.
- Email your completed Course Outline Submission form and individual course PDF's to transfercredit@douglascollege.ca.
Next step
**Transfer credit is processed in date order received. Your complete file will be reviewed by the Transfer Credit team. Detailed course outlines will be forwarded to the appropriate Faculty evaluator. Please allow additional time for processing requests of this nature. They can take up to 3 months to be processed, but may take longer during peak periods. You will receive an e-mail confirmation when your request has been completed. All results will be entered to your Douglas College student record and can be viewed in the Transfer Credit Evaluation Summary area of your myAccount.
