Course Description
This course will provide a solid understanding of many of the features and capabilities of Microsoft's ASP.NET technology in the development of dynamic web sites. Topics will include technology overview, definition and uses of classes in Visual Basic, toolbox controls, managing style, data validations, interaction with SQL databases, AJAX, and LINQ.
Note: Students who have received credit for CISY 2365 will not receive further credit by taking CSIS 2365.
Course Content
  1. Review of VB .NET essentials with coverage of O-O classes/objects
  2. ASP.NET essentials and technology overview
  3. Controls – standard, validation, data, HTML, navigation
  4. Creation of user controls
  5. Managing style – cascading style sheets, master and content pages, themes and skins
  6. Database concepts, SQL, and interaction with SQL databases
  7. AJAX features
  8. LINQ features
  9. Time Permitting – Web site security
  10. Time Permitting – Personalizing web sites
Learning Outcomes

The student will be able to:

  1. manipulate supplied classes/objects and create their own classes/objects in Visual Basic;
  2. build web applications using ASP.NET;
  3. validate form data using server-side validation controls;
  4. use ASP.NET features to create consistent looking web sites;
  5. create dynamic Web applications that interact with a SQL database;
  6. describe and use AJAX features and LINQ features.
