Physics for Life Sciences II
Overview
The course content will include but not be limited to:
- Electrostatics: Forces and Fields
- Electrostatics: Potentials
- Direct Current Electricity
- Circuits
- Magnetism
- Electromagnetic Induction
- Electromagnetic radiation
- The Propagation of Light
- Geometrical Optics
- Physical Optics
- Nuclear physics
- Radioactivity
Lecture with an emphasis on in-class assigments and small group work.
Some assignments may be done on-line.
Assignments 10 - 20%
On-line assignments are an option
Midterm 15 - 25%
Quizzes 10 - 30%
Final Exam 30 - 40%
At the end of this course, the student will demonstrate their ability to solve problems with applications taken from the life sciences involving the following topics.
- waves
- optics
- electricity
- magnetism
- electromagnetic induction
- modern physics
- radioactivity
The exact textbook and materials will be decided by the instructor at the time of the course, but will be similar to
Urone and Hinrichs, Open Stax, College Physics (current edition).
