The Importance of Jaspal Kaur Sangha’s Douglas College Education in Her Family’s Life

As a single mother of three, Jaspal Kaur Sangha wanted financial security for her family. Applying for Douglas College’s Health Care Assistant program was the first step toward her goal.

Jaspal was a Punjabi language high school teacher in India before moving to North Surrey and attending Douglas. During her two years at the College, she improved her English and made valuable connections with her instructors and fellow students. However, her favourite memory was graduation because her three sons got to watch her walk across the convocation stage – a perfect reminder of why she embarked on this journey in the first place.

After graduating, Jaspal received a Total Care Aide position at Fraser Health Authority, where she worked for twenty years before retiring.

Through her career at Fraser Health, and thanks to her education from Douglas College, Jaspal was able to buy a car and a home for her family. Now that she is retired and her sons are all grown up, she makes sure to visit her family as much as possible. She says college is one’s foundation to build your life and excel in the world, which is exactly what Jaspal did.
