How Douglas sparked this alum’s passion for teaching

Kelly McCallum’s passion for teaching, which she has turned into a successful career, sparked during her time at Douglas College. She completed the Physical and Health Education (Graduate Diploma) program on a soccer scholarship while participating in other activities on campus, including playing on the Douglas rugby team. Kelly says she has too many fond memories of Douglas to choose one. She built lasting bonds during her studies and still catches up with her rugby teammates to this day.

After receiving her diploma from Douglas College, she completed a Bachelor of Education at the University of British Columbia and is now studying to get her PhD from the Auckland University of Technology, where she currently teaches and resides.

Kelly says her time at Douglas helped shape her professional and personal life by sparking her passion for teaching and coaching. As a lecturer for the department of Sport Leadership and Management at the Auckland University of Technology, her goal is to help all her students find their self-essence and balance in life. One of her teachings focuses on responding to new challenges outside of their comfort zones and focuses on how to react to challenges in life.
