How Kiran Nijjar used her time at Douglas College to  grow her career and help others

Douglas College's intimate class size and opportunity for growth made it the perfect place for Kiran to start her post-secondary journey. Here, she completed her Sport Science Diploma and developed a newfound interest in Kinesiology.

The small size of her classes made it easy for Kiran to create lifelong friendships. Many of her peers held the same interests as her and transferred to UBC, continuing with her on the next leg of her educational path. The memories she has of spending time with her friends inside and outside of class are ones she values highly.

Kiran discovered her passion for helping others and promoting inclusivity during her time at Douglas College. She was not only a dedicated student, but she also founded a jewellery business – Without Fear & Co. – that donated half its profits to charity. Kiran credits her work and study ethic to her immigrant family, with their constant support pushing her to strive even further in both her education and her career.

In September 2023, Kiran will begin her Master's in Occupational Therapy at UBC, with the goal of making a difference in the medical field as an Occupational Therapist. Discovering her passion for helping others is a journey that started at Douglas College, and is something she’ll always be grateful for.
