Nick Blackman
How Nick Blackman found his passion for helping others through the healthcare industry
Nick Blackman, a first generation Canadian, was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. Before attending Douglas College, Nick pursued his interest in studying Psychology and Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University. During his studies, he realized his true passions were a combination of both the mind and body, which led him to the Psychiatric Nursing Diploma program at Douglas.
Nick has valued the dedicated instructors, inspiring practicum placements and preceptorship programs during his time at Douglas. He has many fond memories from his practicums as they provided him with a great foundation of knowledege in psychiatric nursing and health care. The Psychiatric Nursing Diploma program allowed him to explore and pursue a career within wide variety of areas in the health care industry.
Now, Nick lives with his family in New Westminster and works full-time in the mental health field as an Executive Director for the MPA Society, a not-for-profit organization that empowers people living with mental illnesses and provides housing and community outreach programs across Greater Vancouver. The organization embraces equity and diversity by working with people from all backgrounds.
