Course description
This course in a continuation of BPAC 4002. The course guides students through the business and technical side of producing an interdisciplinary performance production. The work involved in funding, marketing, and presenting the performing arts production in BPAC 4007 will be divided up among the students. Each student will assume responsibility for a portion of it. In some cases their BPAC 4005 work will overlap with their responsibilities in BPAC 4007. A job description outlining the duties and responsibilities of each student will be developed and agreed upon at the beginning of the course.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Discuss the business and technical side of producing an interdisciplinary performance production;
  • Set up and manage a performing arts organization and fund, market and present performances;
  • Employ project management skills and apply analytical, quantitative, conceptual and problem-solving skills to the performing arts;
  • Apply the managerial skills and knowledge of business practice required to work in the arts management field;
  • Conduct research, and use and adapt information to specific projects;
  • Demonstrate understanding of the functioning of technical and design production elements;
  • Communicate about their work in written form;
  • Present their work effectively in group settings.

Students will be assessed by the instructor in consultation with faculty involved in BPAC 4007. The assessment will be based upon the level of completion of all duties/responsibilities outlined in their job description.
