Overview

Course Description
This course introduces students to web server administration. Students learn to install, administer, update and secure an Internet and/or Intranet web site. At least two web servers: Apache and Internet Information Server will be used. Also, students will learn some Linux and Windows Server commands.
Course Content
  1. Basic Linux commands
  2. Basic Windows server commands
  3. Basic Web server hardware requirements
  4. Install and configure a Web server
    • Apache
    • Internet information server
  5. Configure the Domain Name server
  6. Manage Web server tasks such as:
    • User authentication
    • Setup users and groups
    • Manage file system permissions
    • Share resources (such as folders for web publishing)
    • Secure a Web server
  7. Configuration of multiple Web sites on a Web server
  8. Configuration and support of e-mail services

The student will be able to:

  1.  use basic Linux commands;
  2. use basic Windows Server commands;
  3. install the Apache Web Server;
  4. install the Internet Information Server;
  5. configure the Domain Name Service (DNS);
  6. administer and manage a web server;
  7. monitor and analyze the web server environment e.g. review logs.
