Beginning Instrumental Ensemble II
Curriculum guideline
The instructor will present concepts, demonstrate techniques and patterns, and lead the ensemble. Practice exercises and pieces will be rehearsed and/or performed by the whole class, small groups and individuals.
Using suitable ensemble music, students will study balance, intonation, phrasing, dynamics, group discipline and interpretation of aural and visual signals by the instructor.
The successful student will be able to solve problems arising from performance of ensemble music with emphasis on rehearsal techniques and conductor-performer relationship.

*NB. In a performing group, regular attendance is vital to the learning of ensemble skills and the achievement of high performance standards. Absences affect every member of the ensemble; therefore 5% of the final mark will be deducted for each unexcused absence, to a maximum of 30%. Students who miss 30% or more of scheduled class time will receive a final grade of UN (unofficial withdrawal). Excused absences will include illness and urgent family or personal matters.
Unexcused absence from a dress rehearsal or a concert will result in a failing grade.
All music for ensemble will be provided by Douglas College.
