Tutorial: 4 hours per week
Faculty supervised independent research, with supervision provided weekly throughout the semester.
A specific topic area will be agreed upon by the supervisor and student. The student and, if necessary, the supervisor will identify a list of readings for the literature review. The content and design of the research project must be approved by the supervisor and the Research Ethics Board (if necessary).
- Complete the research project proposed in PSYC 4400
- Collect data for the project using appropriate methodology.
- Analyze project data using appropriate data analysis or statistical methods.

Interpret the results in light of the literature review conducted in PSYC 4400.

Write a publishable-quality APA style research paper describing the study, methods, and results.

Orally present results at a thesis defense.
Evaluation will be carried out in accordance with Douglas College Evaluation Policy. Evaluation will be based on course objectives.
Instructors may use a student’s record of attendance and/or level of active participation in the course as part of the student’s graded performance. Where this occurs, expectations and grade calculations regarding class attendance and participation will be clearly defined in the Instructor Course Outline.
The supervisor will provide the student with clear outcomes depending on the nature of the project.

Students may conduct research as part of their coursework in this class. Instructors for the course are responsible for ensuring that student research projects comply with College policies on ethical conduct for research involving humans, which can require obtaining Informed Consent from participants and getting the approval of the Douglas College Research Ethics Board prior to conducting the research.
