Research summary
Cathy Curiel's social work career began almost 20 years ago when she graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work degree from University of British Columbia: Okanagan in 2005. After graduation, Cathy worked in a small rural Northern British Columbian community before moving to Prince George to further her education. Cathy graduated with a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Northern British Columbia in 2010. Areas of interest at this time were in child protection and sibling dynamics. Next she moved to Australia and worked for three years before settling in the lower mainland. In Vancouver, Cathy began working within social work health care and discovered a new passion. Research and practice interest at this time surrounded both the history and evolution of health care social work within B.C. In 2020, she wrote and presented a paper at an international conference her work on social work and the role of technology in the hospital. Most recently, Cathy is interested in anti-racist practice. Social workers who experience racism by colleagues and service-users was the topic of her latest research project. Cathy's has also focused on anti-racist practice related to immigration and seniors. Cathy's research interests include: child protection, anti-racist practice, health care, seniors and ethics.
