Douglas College launches Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Digital Marketing starting Summer 2022

Starting next summer, students with their bachelor’s degrees can become sought-after experts in online marketing with Douglas College’s Post-Baccalaureate Diploma (PBD) in Digital Marketing. The new program focuses on e-commerce, advertising, search engine optimization and more.

The program prepares graduates to respond to a global need for digital skills, says Justin Williams, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration.

“This PBD caters to a rapidly increasing demand for digital marketing experts, both locally and internationally,” says Williams. “B.C.’s post-secondary institutions have yet to match this demand with qualified graduates ready to enter the industry, and this PBD marks a step toward supporting this labour shortage.”

The diploma is designed for students with a bachelor’s degree from any academic background and prepares them to be certified in digital skills by Google and Hootsuite, among others. Students will work with external organizations through class projects and capstone practicums, applying their learning in practical marketing settings.

"This Digital Marketing program is thoughtfully designed to provide students with foundational and practical knowledge while preparing them to earn industry-recognized certifications,” says Thor Borgford, Vice President, Academic and Provost. “The College continues to develop and offer programming to keep pace with external demands.”

Two Marketing instructors, Kimberly Jang and Lorne Patterson, partnered to develop the program. With the diploma’s first intake on the horizon, Patterson is confident that it will fill a unique niche in terms of the marketing education Douglas provides.

“We’re creating an in-depth, focused experience that reflects the unique skills that digital marketing calls for, as well as the dynamic nature of this industry,” said Patterson. “As technology advances, the marketing industry continues to evolve at an ever-quickening pace. We want to give our students a foundation that prepares them to navigate that changing landscape.”

The PBD joins the roster of marketing credentials offered at Douglas, which includes a Bachelor of Business Administration, a certificate, a diploma and two one-year post-degree diplomas in Marketing and Sales.

Douglas College is the largest degree-granting college in B.C., combining the academic foundations of a university and the employer-ready skills of a college to graduate resilient global citizens who adapt, innovate and lead in a changing world.
