Douglas CBA students take first place at Western Canadian Business Competition
Douglas College third and fourth-year Commerce and Business Administration students took multiple first place titles at the 2023 Western Canadian Business Competition (WCBC). From March 20–26, teams from Douglas College competed against other students from post-secondaries across B.C. and Alberta.
Through a simulation, teams were tested on their ability to run a fictional action camera and commercial drone business, create and present a strategic plan and participate in six rounds of decisions that covered all aspects of business including marketing, operations and finance.
In the senior division, Douglas’ team comprising of Martha Garcia, Siddharth Saini, Samridhi Sood and Tom Dao, won the Top Overall Team, Top Strategic Plan and Top Simulation Score awards for their business, AeroCam.
Douglas’ junior team of first and second-year students Kinzlee Changfoot, Daniel Gimbernat Saldana, Saksham Jaraith and Cole R Jennings also competed over the weekend with their company, Falcon Technologies.
This competition was an opportunity for students to network with other business students and professors from across Western Canada, as well as practice the skills and knowledge they’ve learned in the classroom in a simulated real-world environment.
For the first time, the event was hosted by Douglas’ own Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration and coordinated by Lindsay Haselton, Director of Business Programs. Teams were joined by coaches Chris Ricard, Mousa Tawfeeq and Ralph Ferens. The event took place at the New Westminster Campus and the Anvil Office Tower.
The teams were honoured at the awards banquet held at the nearby Inn at the Quay.
