Overview
The Medical Office Assistant Online Certificate Program provides people who currently work in an office environment with the skills needed to work in physicians' offices, clinics, public or private hospitals, nursing homes, and community health centres. Courses include medical administrative procedures, medical terminology, medical billing procedures and clinical procedures and practice. The program is offered over the Internet, allowing students to complete coursework on their own time. Exams are written at the College campus.
NOTE: International students are not currently eligible for this program. For more information, contact Douglas College International.
Admissions Requirements
- General College Admission Requirements (excluding Language Proficiency Requirement)
- An attestation form, certifying that you can satisfy the following requirements:
- at least one year of recent office experience
- good working knowledge of an up-to-date word processing program such as WordPerfect or MS Word
- good working knowledge of an up-to-date web browser such as MS Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox
- Keyboarding speed of 50 net words per minute on a five-minute timing
- English 11 with a grade of "C" or better or one of the following equivalents:
- EN 12 "P"
- EN LIT 12 "P"
- TPC 12 "P"
- COMM 12 "C+"

Successful completion of all courses is required with a "C-" or better for graduation.

Career Pathways
Graduates of the Medical Office Assistant (MOA) Program become skilled MOAs who manage offices and communicate effectively with medical professionals and patients. After one year's experience, MOAs are eligible to write the Medical Office Assistant of B.C. registration examination.
Further Education
Graduates can choose to complete another year of studies at Douglas College to earn an Office Administration Diploma.
The Office Administration Diploma Program transfers towards the Douglas College Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) or Kwantlen Polytechnic University's Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Entrepreneurial Leadership.
