Sign Language Interpretation
Curriculum Guideline
Applicants must meet the admission requirements listed below:
- General College Admission Requirements
- demonstrate proficiency in American Sign Language during the Screening and Selection Weekend activies
- demonstrate an understanding of the Deaf community, Deaf culture, hearing culture and the field of Sign Language interpreting, as demonstrated by successful completion of the ASL and Deaf Studies Program at Vancouver Community College or equivalent. Applicants who have not attended a recognized Deaf Studies program may be required to take a department threshold exam
Graduation Requirements:
- Successful completion of 63 credits (includes English Exit requirement)
- 25% (16 credits) of all coursework must be completed at Douglas College
- English Exit requirement:
* Students may be exempt from taking a three credit academic writing course if they have achieved:
- An "A-" or higher in CFCS 1110, CFCS 1130 and INTR 1225.
- Upon special request, PLAR Practitioners with a satisfactory portfolio of workplace writing may also be exempt.
Students are responsible for providing all necessary documentation to demonstrate English Entrance and Exit Policy requirements or equivalencies.
