Course description
In this course, the student will provide dental health education to a variety of individuals and groups. The student will perform an oral assessment and provide individualized oral health instruction, based on the various needs of the patient.

Learning outcomes

The learning outcomes are based on the Curriculum Guide 2001 Education of Certified Dental Assistants in British Columbia developed for the Ministry of Advanced Education, Training and Technology and the Centre for Curriculum, Transfer and Technology, February 2001.

Upon successful completion of CHDA 1212 the student will be able to:

  1. discuss the periodontium.
  2. discuss the etiology of oral deposits.
  3. integrate concepts of prevention/dental hygiene.
  4. discuss learning principles.
  5. develop strategies for provision of self care plans.
  6. provide oral hygiene instruction to groups and/or special needs individuals.
Means of assessment

Course evaluation is based on course objectives, and is consistent with Douglas College Evaluation Policies.  An evaluation schedule is presented to the students at the beginning of the course.

 

A minimum mark of 65% is required to be successful in the course.
