English Upgrading for ECE and Child and Youth Care programs

Our English Upgrading pathway prepares you to meet the English requirement for the Douglas College Early Childhood Education and Child and Youth Care programs. No placement test is required. It's tuition free for domestic applicants. Start in May 2025 and your application fee will also be covered. Email upgrading@douglascollege.ca and ask about the English Upgrading pathway to ECE or Child and Youth Care.

Placement testing

Before you register for any ENGU courses, you need to write an English placement test to determine your current written command of English (Except for students with a "C-" in English Studies or those entering through the ECE/CYC pathway). Once you complete the written test, you'll have a brief interview with an instructor. There is no need to study or cram before taking your placement test. The tests are purely for placement purposes.

Changes to Entry Requirements starting Fall 2024

Beginning with the Fall 2024 term, students with a "C-" in English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 can now directly apply and register into ENGU 355, without requiring any other assessment testing. ENGU 355 is a one term course that is tuition free for domestic students and meets the English Language Requirements for most Douglas College Courses. Prepare for College at College!

Course fees

ENGU and MATU courses are tuition free. Student fees still apply.
