The importance of exploring to find your passion for Douglas College Alumnus Jessie Moon
Fresh out of high school, Jessie Moon was unsure and nervous about pursuing post-secondary education. However, Douglas College’s transfer program allowed her to take that first step and discover different subjects she was passionate about, leading her to achieve her Associate of Science.
The supportive and warm environment Jessie experienced at the College encouraged her to explore the sciences, and she quickly found herself gravitating towards biology. While this wasn’t an area of interest for her prior to starting post-secondary, the opportunities and breadth of courses available at Douglas brought her passion for biology to light.
While in classes, Jessie could connect with like-minded people with similar goals and career paths. These valuable connections relieved the pressure of rushing through her education, and helped her slow down and take her time to learn what she was passionate about. To this day, Jessie stays in touch with her friends from school, keeping up-to-date on their progress and success.
Since completing her Associate of Science, Jessie has been completing her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Simon Fraser University and working as a Research Assistant in the biological control department at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.
Once she receives her bachelor’s degree, she aspires to go to graduate school and pursue a career in research to benefit people’s health and the environment.
