Overview
The Marketing Diploma combines lectures, case studies, a marketing practicum and simulated business exercises to expose you to essential marketing concepts. Set yourself up for a rewarding career with a general business education, and gain specialized knowledge in customer relations, selling, advertising, marketing research and management.
Get work experience while you study
Put your skills to work by joining the optional Co-operative Education Program, which alternates semesters of study with paid, full-time work in your field. You’ll earn money while gaining experience, building your resume and getting an employer reference, all before you graduate. To participate in Co-op you need to plan two semesters in advance.
In the Business Internship Program, you’ll apply the theory and knowledge you’ve learned in class into a real-world business setting. During your unpaid part-time internship, you’ll be assigned tasks and projects that junior management, marketing, business, administrative and/or sales employees complete in the modern workplace.
To be accepted into the internship program or the Co-op program, you must contact the Career Centre early in your studies at Douglas College.
Career opportunities and future education
Upon graduation from the Diploma in Marketing, you’ll be qualified for entry-level management trainee positions in retailing, financial marketing or industrial sales. Over 5,000 marketing and advertising job openings are expected in B.C. over the next 10 years.
If you'd like to continue your education into a degree, all Marketing Diploma classes transfer into the Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing at Douglas College.

Note: Some courses in this program require students to have completed Foundations of Math 11 with a grade of C (some courses may have a higher requirement). Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you check each individual course prerequisite and ensure that you have completed requirements prior to registration.

Program Requirements
Graduation Requirements For Students Completing By Summer 2023:
- Successful completion of 60 credits
- 25% (15 credits) of all coursework must be completed at Douglas College
- A minimum program GPA of 2.0 is required
- Time limit to complete program graduation requirements: seven (7) years
Graduation Requirements For Students Completing After Summer 2023:
- Successful completion of 60 credits
- 50% (30 credits) of all coursework must be completed at Douglas College
- Graduate in Good Academic Standing (Cumulative GPA of 1.50 – See Academic Performance Policy)
- A minimum program GPA of 2.0 is required
- Time limit to complete program graduation requirements: seven (7) years

1. A student who takes ACCT 1110 and ACCT 1210 will graduate with 63 credits.
2. While English 1130 is suggested, students can substitute an English, Communications or Creative Writing course that transfers (as English credit) to one of the B.C. research universities (SFU, UBC, UBC-O, UVIC or UNBC).
3. Students taking Internship (COBA 4885) must register with the Co-op Office two (2) semesters in advance of their intended Internship.
4. Students are encouraged to consult with the Department Chair or a Faculty Advisor regarding any questions on elective choice. Students wishing to transfer to a degree program should ensure that 1000-2000 level courses are university transferable.
